Dr. Alaa Khushhal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the College of Applied Medical Science at King Faisal University, where he graduated with a GPA of 4.27 out of 5, earning a place on the second Dean’s List upon completion on 17th June 2006. he furthered her education with a Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation from Flinders University in Australia, achieving a GPA of 5.7 out of 7, completing her studies on 20th July 2011. Dr. Khushhal pursued additional qualifications, including a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Training from the University of Hull, completed on 10th June 2015, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Training from the same institution, completed on 7th December 2018. His academic journey culminated in the completion of his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Hull on 6th September 2019.

Dr. Alaa Khushhal has a wealth of experience in academia, having started his career as a Demonstrator at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah, where his served from 29th October 2007 to March 2009. he then progressed to the role of Lecturer at the same institution, a position he held from March 2009 to April 2020. Dr. Khushhal currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Umm al-Qura University, a role he has held since April 2020. His dedication to teaching and research has been a constant throughout his career, contributing significantly to the academic community.

Teaching Experience:

Dr. Alaa Khushhal has extensive teaching experience in various areas of physiotherapy. He has taught both theoretical and practical aspects of the Electrotherapy syllabus to second-year students. Additionally, he has instructed students on Muscle Testing, also to second-year students. During his time as a lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Khushhal taught third-year students in Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, including cardiopulmonary clinical practice. he also taught Geriatric courses to fourth-year students and patients’ assessment for respiratory students in the second year. Dr. Khushhal’s teaching responsibilities currently include three courses for third-year students (Internal diseases course, Physical therapy in internal Medicine, and Clinical training in internal Medicine). He also teaches a course on old age Physiotherapists for fourth-year students and Burn Rehabilitation and Aquatic therapy for third-year students. Additionally, he has served as a council trustworthy in the physical therapy department at Umm Al-Qura University for about two years. Dr. Alaa Khushhal is actively engaged in various research projects aimed at advancing the field of physiotherapy and healthcare. He is currently leading a grant research project titled “Accuracy of Apple Watch to Measure Cardiovascular Indices in Patients With Cardiac Diseases: Observational Study,” funded by the Deanship of Scientific Research at Umm Al-Qura University (grant number 22UQU4280290DSR01). This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the Apple Watch in measuring cardiovascular indices in patients with cardiac diseases. In addition to his grant research, Dr. Khushhal is involved in several ongoing research projects. These include studies on the accuracy of the Apple Watch in measuring cardiovascular indices in patients with chronic diseases, the accuracy of the Apple Watch in measuring 30-second resting electrocardiography in healthy individuals and patients with chronic diseases, and the comparative efficacy of the Apple Watch paired with a Polar chest strap versus the Apple Watch alone in measuring exercise intensities. Furthermore, Dr. Khushhal is conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of hydrotherapy on arterial blood pressure in patients with peripheral artery disease.
