Venkatesh Rao completed his Ph.D. in Nanobiotechnology from the Indian Institute of Science in 2017. His thesis, titled “Experimental Studies on Extremely Small Scale Oscillations of Microscale Mechanical and Biological Structures,” was advised by Prof. Rudra Pratap and Prof. Navakanta Bhat. Prior to his Ph.D., he obtained an M.S. in Micro Electro Mechanical Systems from Coventry University in 2008. He also holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, which he completed in 2004.

Since 2017, Venkatesh Rao has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan. From 2015 to 2017, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, Karnataka. Prior to his professorial roles, he worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, from 2005 to 2009.
