Roger Amílcar González-Herrera is a distinguished Mexican research professor He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Yucatán in 1984 and pursued advanced studies, earning a Master’s in Earth Sciences from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a Doctorate in Sciences specializing in Groundwater from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Additionally, he completed postgraduate studies in groundwater tracing techniques at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, and in Geohydrology at the University of Birmingham, England. González-Herrera began his career in 1982 as a research assistant at the Hydrology Section of the Autonomous University of Yucatán, where he later became a Research Professor in 1989. He has contributed significantly to the field through various research projects, including a sabbatical at the University of Florida, and has served as a visiting researcher at universities in Spain and Canada. A member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI), Level 1, his research interests focus on hydrodynamics of coastal zones, groundwater resource evaluation, modeling flow and solutes in aquifers, and addressing contamination issues. Currently, he serves as the Coordinator of the Academic Board of Hydraulics and Hydrology at the Faculty of Engineering at the Autonomous University of Yucatán.
