Dr. Tondepu Subbaiah, born on June 10, 1952, is a distinguished chemical engineer with a prolific career spanning over four decades. He currently serves as the Research Advisor (Chemical Engineering) at Vignan University, Vadlamudi, Andhra Pradesh, India. With an extensive background in hydro and electrometallurgy, Dr. Subbaiah’s expertise lies in process development for the recovery of non-ferrous metals, design and scale-up studies, and the preparation of engineering process packages and techno-economic feasibility reports.Dr. Subbaiah completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering in 1974, followed by an M.Tech in Electrochemical Engineering in 1977, and later earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1994, all from Andhra University. His academic journey is marked by numerous accolades, including being a gold medalist. He began his career at the Central Electrochemical Research Institute in Karaikudi in 1976. Over the years, he held various positions at the Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology in Bhubaneswar, ascending from Junior Scientist to Chief Scientist by 2006. His tenure at this institution was distinguished by significant contributions to the field of hydro and electrometallurgy, for which he received several awards, including the prestigious Nilamani Devi – Biswanath Das Award in 1995.
