Professor Erol Gelenbe is a distinguished computer scientist currently serving as a Professor at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice, Poland, and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London since 2024. He also holds the Chair of the Informatics Section of Academia Europaea since 2023. Born in Turkey and a naturalized citizen of France, Professor Gelenbe has an impressive academic background. He earned his Docteur dāEtat ĆØs Sciences MathĆ©matiques in 1973 from UniversitĆ© Pierre & Marie Curie under the supervision of Prof. J.-L. Lions, with a thesis on āModĆ©lisation des SystĆØmes Informatiquesā. He also holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (1970), where he worked on āLanguages Defined by Linear Probabilistic Automataā under the guidance of Prof. E.J. Smith Jr. His academic journey began with an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the same institute in 1968, and a BSc with High Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, in 1966.
