His academic career began as a senior lecturer at Jean Monnet University, where he established the Image Processing team at the TSI Laboratory, now part of the Hubert Curien Laboratory. In 1988, he became the head of the Electronics and Image Department at ICPI in Lyon and later, following the merger of ICPI and ESCIL to form CPE-Lyon, he served as the Scientific Director and head of the Electronics, Telecoms, and Computing section. He was instrumental in creating the LISA Laboratory (Image, Signal, and Acoustics), a CNRS-recognized research unit.

  • 1984: Began his academic career as a Senior Lecturer at Jean Monnet University, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the ‘Image Processing’ team at the TSI Laboratory, which later evolved into the Hubert Curien Laboratory.
  • 1988: Became the Head of the Electronics and Image Department at ICPI, Lyon.
  • 1992: After the merger of ICPI and ESCIL engineering schools to form CPE-Lyon, he was appointed Scientific Director of CPE and Head of the ETC section (Electronics, Telecoms, Computing). During this period, he was also instrumental in the creation of the LISA Laboratory (Image, Signal, and Acoustics), an EP CNRS unit.
  • 2000: Joined the ISTASE engineering school (which became Telecom Saint-Etienne in 2008) as a Professor. In 2001, he launched the ‘Digital Image and Vision’ course at the school.
  • 2003: Played a key role in bringing 3rd-year students from the Ecole Supรฉrieure d’Optique, now IOGS, to Saint-Etienne to acquire image processing skills through a specialized ‘Image, Vision Signal’ Master’s course.
  • 2008: Contributed to the creation of the ERIS group (Eclairage, Rendu visuel, Imagerie optique, Sรฉcuritรฉ opto-numรฉrique) within the Laboratoire Hubert Curien (UMR 5516) in collaboration with Pierre Chavel. He was responsible for Axis 1, focusing on โ€˜Lighting, Visual Rendering.โ€™
